Gut Supporting Smoothie

A delicious gut balancing smoothie

I often recommend this smoothie to my clients to help them start the day in a nutritious way.  Containing loads of polyphenols and fibre to support your gut, we also add in protein and fats to help balance your blood sugar levels.  Fruit-only smoothies often miss this out and can send your blood sugars too high too quickly.  We want to deliver the nutrients in the fruit without spiking your insulin too high.  This receipe can be made in batches that last about 3 days so if you make a batch at the weekend breakfast will be easy and nutritious.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 banana (preferably on the green side)
  • Large thumb of ginger (more if you like)
  • 2 kiwis (not overripe)
  • 2-3 tsp grass fed
  • bovine type I,II & III, V & X hydrolysed collagen per person per day
  • 1 tsp per day organic Matcha green tea powder
  • 1 cup fresh Pomegranate juice
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • ¼ cup Coconut oil or 1/2 avocado if you prefer
  • 2 cups of blueberries

Optional Toppings

  • 2tsp per person per day Spirulina
  • 1tsp per day Chaga Mushroom powder
  • 2tsp ground flax seeds

Method

If using frozen blueberries add all the ingredients except for the berries to the liquidiser and blitz until smooth, then add the blueberries and blitz again.  This will hopefully prevent the coconut oil from solidifying due to the drop in temperature when the berries are added.  Serve immediately.  Stores in the fridge for 3 days.

Nutrition

This recipe is full of polyphenols which your gut loves to munch on, it is balanced with fats and protein.  There are also plenty of anti-oxidants and minerals to support your immune and brain function, whilst the collagen helps to repair the gut wall (and is absorbed due to the Vitamin C in the kiwis).
