Deeply hydrating Linseed Tea

This is a slow recipe and takes a bit of preparation, but once it’s done, you can store the linseed tea in your fridge and make a cup whenever you want.  It has a neutral flavour, so you can add whatever extras you like in the cup. It is deeply hydrating and comforting.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs Linseeds (flaxseeds)
  • 1 litre filtered water
  • Slices of ginger (optional)
  • Segment of lemon (optional)

Method

Add the linseeds and water to a pan and bring the water to boil, then immediately turn off the heat and leave overnight with the lid on.  The next day, bring the mixture to a gentle simmer for 1 hour.

Strain the seeds from the liquid (you can eat them – so add them to your porridge, overnight oats, pancakes or Seed Bread for some amazing fibre!). Then put the remaining liquid in a clean jar and store in the fridge – for up 4 days.

This is the basis for your linseed tea.

To make your cup of tea

When making a cup of tea add around 2 tsp – 1 tbs of the linseed mixture to your mug (you can increase as you get used to it).

Add some hot water and blend the mixture with the water to dissolve as much as possible.  A small whisk is ideal for this.

Add slices of ginger and a squeeze of lemon or whatever flavour combinations you enjoy – or nothing, as it is a fairly neutral flavour.   Then add the rest of the water to fill the cup.

Enjoy the nourishing hydration!
